Court adjourned Vanguard Publisher’s Case for DPP's advice.
The inability of the
production of the Director of public prosecution advice (DPP's) today stalled
further proceedings in the trial of those accused of robbing the Vanguard media
publisher, Mr. Sam Amuka.
At the resumed hearing
of the case, the first suspect who happened to be the security man in the
Vanguard publisher house, Koyis Usman (22) was absent while the remaining five
were present.
Those present were :
Umaru Usani (46), Abdurasaq Hassan (43), Musa Atim Abubakar (31), Gambo Umar
(31) and Abdulramon Kashil (25).
When the matter was
called, the prosecutor, inspector Simon Imhonwa informed the court that they
are yet to receive the DPP's advice.
However, information
gathered by the Eagle revealed that, the case file is yet to be transferred to
the office of the DPP by the police.
The accused person who
were arraigned on September 1, were kept in the prison except for the first defendant
whom the prosecutor nor the police fail to give any information about his where
about
.
The suspects were
arraigned on a four-count charge offence bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery
and grievous bodily harm.
At the last adjourned
date, Magistrate issued a warrant for the suspects to be brought to court
which prompted their presence in today’s sitting.
It will be recalled that
the prosecution had accused the suspects of robbing Chief Sam Amuka in his
house, injured him and made away with cash and valuables valued at N2, 875, 000.
Their pleas were however
not taken because the magistrate’s court lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter,
as the offences carry capital punishment. They were, however, ordered to be
remanded in prison custody, pending the DPP’s advice.
Subsequently Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi adjourned the matter till November 27.
