Gingrich Predicts Greater Political Success for Republicans in 2018
Former
Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich claimed the “great political surprise of 2018”
will be the margin of victory for Republicans at the ballot box this November,
in an op-ed for Fox News Thursday.
“The great
political surprise of 2018 will be the size of the Republican victory,”
Gingrich writes. He believes the GOP’s success will come as an “enormous
shock” to Democrats and members of the mainstream media who have attempted to
derail President Donald Trump’s agenda.
The former
speaker asserts the media “lied” about the tax bill to convince the electorate
their taxes would go up, while over-sampling liberals in their polling data. He
also accuses them of pushing a false narrative about the how unpopular the bill
was to alter the public’s perception of the legislation.
Gingrich
believes the passage of the bill is a rejection of the ideas of the “elite
media” and will end up being the “2018 proving ground of media liberal bias and
dishonesty.”
Gingrich
also cites a CBS News report that contradicts the media’s narrative
on tax reform, and shows a certified public accountant (CPA) telling three
different families they would pay less in taxes under the GOP plan.
A single
mother making under $40,000 didn’t think she would be affected by the new law
but will end up keeping about $1,300 more per year, while two college teachers
with a combined income of over $150,000 will take home $650 more than last
year. Finally, a family of five making a combined income of $300,000 will pay
$13,000 less as a result of increased child tax credits, and not being hit with
the alternative minimum tax, according to CBS News.
Gingrich
predicts the reality of the tax cuts will have three major effects on the
upcoming midterm elections:
The
electorate will be “surprised and pleased” by the GOP delivering on taxes and
the dismantling of ObamaCare . The media’s bias will clash with reality on a
“personal level” for voters as they realize they are using their opinions to
shape facts and Democrats running for re-election who voted against the tax
bill will “live to regret it,” especially in states Trump won in 2016.
Gingrich
says the midterms are shaping up to be a “definitive election” where voters
will have two choices. They can elect Democrats if they want “bigger
bureaucracy” and less take-home pay, or they can vote Republican and diminish
the centralized power of Washington and pocket more of their hard earned
income.
“If
Republicans can learn to tell the truth better than the elite media and
Democrats lie, the GOP will win an astonishing victory in 2018,” Gingrich
concluded.
