Amosun’s Anointed Candidate, Adekunle Akinlade Defects To APM
Adekunle
Akinlade of the Egbado South, and Ipokia Federal Constituency has switched his
allegiance to the Applied People’s Movement.
Akinlade was
Ibikunle Amosun, Ogun State Governor’s favoured candidate for the APC
governorship ticket in the state.
Amosun had
drawn a list of 40 candidates he anointed to carry the party’s flag in several
positions. A list the NWC of the APC has since ditched for direct primary
election. The election saw Dapo Abiodun emerging as the party’s candidate to
Amosun’s chagrin.
Amosun had
held several meetings with Buhari, alongside other aggrieved members of the
APC, most notably, governors whose candidates were abandoned for ‘higher’
candidates.
Adekunle’s
defection is suspected to be oiled by Amosun, as some members of the Ogun State
House of Assembly have also switched allegiance to the APM.
Akinlade
announced his decision on Wednesday’s Plenary on the floor of the House of
Representatives.
Other
members of the House of Representatives who defected from one party to the
other are; Rabiu Kaugama from Jigawa who moved from the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Salisu Koko from
Kebbi who also joined APC but from SDP and Mohammed Ajanah from Kogi who defected
from APC to PDP.
Akinlade
revealed he is still going to support President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019
election. However, he blasted the leadership of the APC for the way they
handled his issue.
Amosun was
absent at the swear-in ceremony of Gboyega Oyetola, as insinuations rise on his
unhappiness with the abandoning of his candidate for another person.
