Gbajabiamila Suspends Plenary Amid Rowdy Session

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, today suspended plenary after a free-for-all which ensued after the announcement of Ndidi Elumelu as the minority leader of the House.

Gbajabiamila had ignored PDP’s choice as contained in their letter when he announced Elumelu as Minority leader. The PDP had chosen Kingsley Chinda for the position in the letter to him.

The Speaker’s announcement was greeted with protests from lawmakers leading to attempts to carry the mace by an unidentified lawmaker.

The sergeants-at-arms moved to protect the mace while Gbajabiamila, in the heat of the ruckus, adjourned the plenary. He was guarded out of the chamber amid cheers and jeers.
