“We will Make Things Right this Time” Luke Shaw Vow’s
Luke Shaw
admitted Manchester United's form last season was “embarrassing” and
has vowed they will put things right this term.
United
finished sixth last season, missing out on the Champions League and ending a
whopping 32 points behind champions Manchester City .
Jose
Mourinho was sacked midway through the season and, despite an initial upturn
under his successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United ended the campaign with a
whimper.
But after a
rigorous pre-season under Solskjaer, in which they have won every game, Shaw
said there is a collective desire among United's players to make up for last
season's debacle and fulfil their potential.
Shaw, voted
United's Player of the Year last season, said: "From a personal point of
view, it was a better season than I've had for a while, but I still think I can
do much better.
"I
didn't really feel like anyone deserved the player-of-the-year award because of
the season we had as a team.
“There's
more to come from me and everyone needs to be better because last season was
somewhere near embarrassing. "We were all very disappointed. It hurt even
more that there were so many English teams around us who were playing in finals
and had done well while we were just on holiday.
“There was
nothing we could do about it other than watch the games and think.
“Of course
it hurt. We all felt it. We have a lot to prove this season and I am sure we
will. We're going to have a much better season."
Solskjaer
has worked his players hard in pre-season, to ensure there is no repeat of the
tail off that saw them take just eight points from 27 in their final nine
games, to miss out on a top-four spot.
"It's
been much harder than we've had before," said Shaw. "We've worked
very hard and all taken it in a positive way.
“Now we're
all benefiting from it massively. We feel good and fresh. The players seem more
energetic.
