AYOBO COMMUNITY PROTEST THE ACTIVITIES OF “LAND GRABBERS”
Residents of
Ayobo on tuesday matched to the Lagos State House of Assembly in Alausa,
protesting the activites of Land grabbers in Ayobo. The Menbers of Community
particularly pointed at the activites of one Moruf Owonla aka kaka.
According to
the community, For over a decade, unspeakable violence has been visited on the
people of Our Community and our properties
by kaka, who for some time claimed to be acting for
and on behalf
of Late Ekundayo Arimiyau Bello and Princess
Josephine Momoh (Late Ekundayo Arimiyau Bello’s agent), but
who is now claiming to be acting in his own behalf. The theatre of this violence
comprises over seventy-nine built up streets, where over 600,000 people
live.
Members of the community further said the violence by the land grabbers is based on the purported execution of a Court Judgment obtained in Suit No. ID/1722/92 (Chief Arimiyau Bello Ekundayo v. Taiwo Ogunbiyi & 12 Ors), delivered on the 29th day of October 2004, by Hon. Justice O.A. Williams of Court No. 7 in the Lands Division of the Ikeja Judicial Division of the High Court of Lagos state. They said that this Judgment only covered a limited part of the lands in Ayobo, apart from the fact that land and property owners in Ayobo were not parties to the Suit leading to the Judgment, for which reason same cannot be lawfully executed against them.
The Ayobo
protesters were led to the Lagos State house of Assembly by Barrister Olasumbo
Fasesin, were temporally stoped at the main gate of the house by security men
who had tried to talk them into seeking other means to the crisis. Having been
satisfied by the explanation of Barrister Fasesin they were allowed into the
assembly complex, and also presented the community’s letter of protest to the
speaker of the Lagos state house of Assembly and the state governor.
On arrival
the protesters were met by the Chief Wipe of the Assembly Hon .Rotimi Abiru and two other members of
the house, who listen to the reason behind the peoples protest as explained by
Barrister Fasesin in his response express his happeness and that of the state
government that the people sort peace in the face of intimidation. He further
urges them to remain peaceful and wait for the final out come of the matter as
the state house of assembly will investigate the matter and look for solutions
