Man Utd Sweating on Five Players Fitness Ahead of Leicester Game
Manchester
United are sweating on the fitness of five players ahead of their clash
with Leicester this weekend.
Defensive
duo Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, midfielders Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba
and striker Anthony Martial were all forced to miss their national side’s games
over the break.
Shaw missed
out on selection for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo due
to a hamstring injury picked up against Crystal Palace and
subsequently missed the draw with Southampton .
Wan-Bissaka
and Lingard both withdrew from international duty with England last week, the
former with a back injury, the latter due to illness.
French duo
Pogba and Martial also missed international duty this week,
Pogba picked up an
ankle injury against the Saints at St. Mary's which forced him out of France
contention.
Martial
picked up a knock in the home defeat to Palace two weeks ago and was not a part
of the match-day squad against the Saints last week.
With each
player out in key positions for the Red Devils it poses a difficult situation
for boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of the Premier League's return.
Solskjaer
opted to use Ashley Young at left-back in place of Shaw and could do so again
this weekend.
All five
players were initially predicted to be back this week, at the earliest, for the
weekend's action but now face a race against time to be fit.
However,
United were handed a prospective boost with Eric Bailly who could return
early from injury.
Bailly
picked up a knee injury during pre-season after he underwent surgery at the end
of July and is now targeting a November return, a month ahead of schedule.
Leicester
visit Old Trafford on Saturday with kick-off at 3pm.
