Atletico Madrid 'Open Transfer Talks' with Cavani

Manchester
United and Chelsea look set to miss out on Edison Cavani after it was revealed
that the PSG striker is in negotiations with Atletico Madrid over a move to the
Spanish club.
Cavani has
been a peripheral figure at PSG so far this season, making just eight
appearances in Ligue 1, and it appears his time in the French capital may be
coming to an end.
Both United
and Chelsea are keen to strengthen their forward options this month,
and there was speculation that they could go head-to-head over a deal for
Cavani.
But
according to RMC Sport Atletico are the new favourites to sign the
32-year-old, and are currently talking with PSG Sporting Director Leonardo over
a deal in the current window.
There were
reports that Cavani actually already has a pre-contract agreement with Atletico
for the summer, when his contract with PSG ends, but RMC Sport believe
this is a two-and-a-half year deal which would only be valid if he were to join
this month.
United have
already missed out on one of their main targets, with 19-year-old
wonderkid Erling
Haaland joining Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg, while
Chelsea are still said to be weighing up options with regards to which players
they will make moves for.
Cavani is
reportedly open to leaving PSG earlier than anticipated due to his lack of
playing time, with the player frustrated at his ever-increasing time on the
bench.
He has
scored 198 goals in 290 appearances for the club, but has fallen down the
pecking order due to the blossoming striking partnership between Kylian Mbappe
and Mauro Icardi.
If he does
leave he will no doubt be remembered fondly by supporters of PSG, having helped
the side win 18 trophies during his time at the club, including five Ligue 1
titles and four Coup de Frances.
