PDP Expels Former Guber Aspirant, Abubakar Ibrahim

The People
Democratic Party, (PDP) governorship aspirant in the November 2019 election in
Kogi State, Abubakar Ibrahim, has been expelled from the party for alleged
involvement in anti-party activities.
Ibrahim, who
is also the son of former Kogi state Governor Ibrahim Idris , was found guilty
of his actions by the Disciplinary Committee set up by his home PDP Icheke Ward
in Omala Local Government Area to investigate allegations against him.
The letter and
notice of expulsion in accordance with chapter ten and section 57 of the PDP
Constitution (as amended) which signed by the Ward Chairman of the Peoples
Democratic Party(PDP), Icheke, Sunday Idakwoji and made available to
journalists in Lokoja on Wednesday reads:
“The
Disciplinary Committee set up by the PDP, Icheke Ward to investigate
allegations against you, (Abubakar Ibrahim) has submitted its report and found
you guilty of the offences.
” After due
consideration of the report and your blunt refusal to appear before the disciplinary
committee to defend yourself of the allegations leveled against you, we the
members of Icheke Ward Executive Council of PDP at a meeting on the 15th day of
April, 2020 have unanimously resolved to expel you from our party.
“We are by
this notice now, therefore, conveying to you the said party resolution that you
have been expelled from PDP by Icheke Ward Executive”
The petition
against Abubakar Ibrahim, which was investigated and found him guilty include;
challenging the outcome of the PDP governorship primaries which declared Musa
Wada as its candidate in Court without resorting to the party as required by
the party constitution.
“This action
of his according to the petition is a contravention of section 58(1) (L) of the
PDP constitution (as amended in 2017). Secondly, Abubakar Ibrahim was alleged
to have never participated in the party’s meetings or any other official
activities of the party either at ward or local government level which
contravenes section 58(I) (e) of the constitution of the party (as amended,
2017).
“Thirdly,
the records of the party shows that Abubakar Ibrahim is never a financial
member of the party at Icheke Ward level which contravenes section 58(I) (f) of
the constitution.”
In another development,
the Niger state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engineer
Mohammad Imam, has disclosed that 33 members of the party are facing expulsion
and other disciplinary measures.
Briefing
newsmen in Minna, Imam said that these members had taken the party to court
without exhausting all avenues for reconciliation and settlement. “We have had
running battles in the court of law regarding internal cases. Our members who
lost primaries took the party to court. There are 33 internal cases from those
who are dissatisfied with our primaries and have gone to court,” he stated.
The chairman
stated the party had won all the cases with “all the cases were struck out in
favour of APC.”
He said that
the party had decided to invoke its constitutional provision, which stated that
once a member takes the party to court without exhausting all avenues, the
person ceases to be a member of the party.
“We are not
unaware of the constitutional provision of the party. The local government
election primaries went free and fair but some recalcitrant party members
decided to take the party to court.
“We know the
party constitutional provision that once you take the party to court without
exhausting all avenues, you are deemed not to be members of the party.
“The working
committee will meet and deliberate on those that took us to court. Since we
have defeated them, even at appeal, then the constitutional provision of the
party will take its due course.
“If we leave
them at the party, they will become a virus and become more deadly than
COVID-19. The party will take steps about them.”
