Court Nullifies Ize-Iyamu’s Candidacy In Edo Poll
Pastor
Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the governorship flagbearer of the All Progress Congress
(APC) in the Sept 19, 2020 guber poll in Edo state was on Wednesday
disqualified and his candidacy nullified in a shocking verdict delivered by the
Edo State High Court .
He was
disqualified on the grounds that the APC Deputy-Governorship candidate, Audu
Ganiyu Abudu, presented false information while filing his Form EC9 with the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) filed the certificate forgery suit as it argued that the
documents submitted to INEC by Ganiyu show discrepancies in his academic
qualifications and other means of identification.
Recall INEC
had declared and returned incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki of the People’s
Democratic Party as the winner of the mouthwatering election
This ruling
means both Ize-Iyamu and his running mate, Ganiyu will no more be recognized as
candidates in the election, following their disqualification by the court.
