The South
East South South Professionals of Nigeria (SESSPN) have condemned the murder of
Mr. Ahmed Gulak, the former Special Adviser to former President Goodluck
Jonathan.
In a statement
release to the press and signed by Barrister Hannibal Uwaifo (President) George
Agu ( Deputy President SE) Andy Wabali (Deputy President SS) Ireke Kalu Onuma
(General Secretary), the association said it received with deep regret the
unfortunate murder of Mr. Ahmed Gulak Politician and former Special Adviser to
former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“This
dastardly act which reportedly occurred in Owerri, Imo State last weekend, is
not only worrisome but represents a setback in the struggle for a Just, Fair
and Peaceful Nigeria.”
The association
further said “ SESSPN hereby condemns this callous act in the strongest terms
permissible and cautions that this is a very dangerous dimension to the
festering insecurity in the South East hitherto a very peaceful haven for
Social and Economic activities.
We urge all
those responsible for the wanton killing of security officials, innocent
Citizens, the burning and looting of Public Properties to sheath their Swords
and embrace a road map for a drastic but peaceful and orderly change desired by
Nigerians.”
The entire
members of the South East South South Professionals of Nigeria hereby condoles
with the Wife, and Family of the late politician as well as , the Government
and People of Adamawa State for this callous act. May his Soul rest in Peace .
Amen The statement added.
The
association in the statement also called on members of National Assembly not to
engage on the fruitless exercise of constitutional review but rather they
should conduct a referendum where majority of Nigerians will speak.
“The SESSPN
once again renew the call to the National Assembly and all those currently
engaged in the fruitless exercise of Constitutional review that what majority
of Nigerians are yearning for is an entirely new Constitution put together by
the voice of the majority of Nigerians and endorsed via a referendum.
The Federal Government of Nigeria should not
delude itself that the present agitations for structural changes and the
deteriorating Security challenges will fizzle out without a positive response
to the yearnings of Nigerians for Equity and Justice in running the affairs of
Nigeria. We believe that the current drift to a state of total anarchy in the
country can only be reversed by drastic change in the unsustainable status quo.”
The SESSPN
as an advocacy non-political, non- partisan Group will continue to support a
United Nigeria sustained mainly by Equity and Justice.
