Rishi Sunak Officially Takes Over As UK PM

Following the official approval by Britain’s King Charles III, new Conservative leader Rishi Sunak has resume work as prime minister and the very first pm of the king’s reign.

Mr. Sunak is Britain’s third prime minister this year, following Boris Johnson, who resigned in July while Liz Truss who stepped, lasted just 49 days.

Sunak, the first of Asian heritage and the first Hindu to lead the country, vowed to mend its stricken finances while speaking outside 10 Downing Street after his appointment by King Charles III.

Departing Downing Street, a little before, Truss wished Sunak “every success” and said she remained “more convinced than ever” that Britain needed to be “bold” in confronting the challenges it faced.

Sunak, who is also the youngest leader in more than two centuries, became the ruling Conservatives’ new leader on Monday after triumphing over rival contender Penny Mordaunt, who failed to secure enough nominations from Tory MPs.
