Subsidy: Labour Protesters Storm National Assembly, Working Refineries, Only Solution — Ayuba Wabba
Angry Nigerian workers under the umbrella of the Nigerian Labour Congress on Today(Wednesday) blocked the Entrance to the National Assembly in Abuja as they moved their protest from Unity Fountain to the Senate.
The National Assembly gate became congested
with pedestrian and vehicular traffic resulting in the pulling down of the gate
as the protesters demanding to express their displeasure at the handling of the
entire situation by security agents.
Earlier, the
protesters, led by the leaders of the Organised Labour, Joe Ajaero of the
Nigeria Labour Congress, and Festus Osifo of the Trade Union Congress, asked
security operatives stationed at the legislative building to open the gates.
Members of
the union were seen holding placards with various demands, including the
increase and payment of salaries, stopping the increase in school fees, and
reviewing the N8,000 palliative, with many others showing “let the poor
breathe.”
Workers from
various sectors, including education, health, oil, and gas, represented their
sectors as they chanted solidarity mantras while carrying their flags and
placards.
