Elijah Shokoya: Court Fix Feb. 1, 2024 for Adoption of Final Written Address
An Ikeja High Court has fixed Feb. 1, 2024, for the adoption of final written addresses in the Elijah Shokoya matter.
Justice
Oyindamola Ogala gave the defence and prosecution counsels until Dec. 20 and Jan.
20, 2024, to file and serve their respective final written addresses.
At today’s resume hearing, the defence team concluded talking the evidence of its third defence witness Mr Ahmed Gobir, Group General Manager, Human Resources Department of the company, who identified a copy of the company's terms and conditions.
The defence
witness was cross-examined by defence counsel, Mr Ebunola Ewonowu.
Ewonowu
asked the defendant in which category the defendant was employed; Gobir said
that the defendant was deployed in the pool of employees and could be assigned
to drive senior staff who could be Nigerian or expatriate.
He also
informed the court that no driver was employed without a valid driver’s license
and that the defendant had no records of accidents, at least, not to his
knowledge.
The Lagos
State Prosecutor, Mr Ola Azeez, thereafter, asked the witness if he was at the
scene of the incident and he responded that he was not
Azeez also
asked if he knew what happened at the scene of the incident and the witness
answered no.
Elijah Shokoya
is charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was accused of allegedly causing the
death of Mr Olawale Akinmade, an officer of LASTMA, when he ran him over with
an Opel car with Lagos registration number AAA 74 GG.
The alleged
incident occurred at 7. 20 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2021, on Ikorodu Road by Demurin
Junction, Ketu, Lagos State.
Shokoya was
first arraigned on June 23, 2021.
