Osun Governorship Poll: APC Intensifies Campaign Ahead of Saturday's Election
Political activities gathered momentum on Thursday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensified its campaign ahead of Saturday's governorship election in Osun State, with party leaders expressing confidence of a strong performance at the polls.
Speaking during campaign activities across the state, APC leaders described the election as an opportunity for the people of Osun to determine the future direction of governance. The party urged eligible voters to come out in large numbers, vote peacefully and in accordance with the law, expressing confidence in the electoral process.
The opposition, however, insisted that it retains widespread grassroots support across the state and dismissed the APC's optimism. Party leaders maintained that their record in government and continued engagement with residents would be reflected in the outcome of the election. Both major political parties have intensified their campaigns across Osun's 30 local government areas as the election draws closer.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its readiness for the governorship election, stating that sensitive and non-sensitive election materials have been distributed while ad hoc staff and electoral officials have been deployed to their designated locations. The commission also appealed to voters to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with electoral guidelines.
Security agencies have equally assured residents of adequate security before, during and after the election. They warned against vote-buying, violence, intimidation and other forms of electoral malpractice, while promising to maintain law and order throughout the exercise.
Political analysts believe the Osun governorship election will be closely watched across the country because of its potential impact on the nation's political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections. They noted that voter turnout, the conduct of political actors and the transparency of the electoral process will be important indicators of the credibility of the poll.
Residents across the state have also appealed to political parties and their supporters to embrace peace before, during and after the election. As campaigns officially come to an end, attention has now shifted to Saturday's vote, when the electorate will decide who will govern Osun State for the next four years.
