KENYA CONFIRMS SECOND EBOLA CASE, QUARANTINES CONTACTS

Kenya has confirmed a second case of Ebola linked to its first recorded patient in the latest outbreak, prompting health authorities to strengthen surveillance and monitoring measures.

The country's Health Ministry said the second patient, a 39-year-old man who is a close relative of the first patient, developed symptoms while under quarantine after being identified as a contact.

The first patient, a 40-year-old Kenyan who had returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo, reportedly travelled through Uganda before arriving in Kenya. He tested positive for the virus and died shortly after his arrival on October 5.

Health officials have identified 128 contacts associated with the first case. Of these, 108 are reportedly being quarantined in Kenya, while five others are being monitored abroad.

Authorities said the identification of the second case through contact tracing would help improve the prospects of early intervention and reduce the risk of further transmission.

The government has also intensified screening at border crossings and airports as part of efforts to identify possible infections and prevent the disease from spreading.

Ebola is a serious viral disease that can cause severe illness and death. Early detection, isolation of suspected cases and careful monitoring of exposed individuals are important elements of outbreak response.

Health authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report symptoms or suspected exposure through the designated reporting channels.

Officials have said the two confirmed cases are epidemiologically linked, with no evidence of community transmission reported in the account available Thursday.

The situation remains under monitoring as health workers continue contact tracing and other containment measures.
