Mailafia Release by DSS Jos office

Dr. Obadiah
Mailafia, on Monday, appeared at the Jos office of the Department of State
Services (DSS)upon another invitation
but he was not detained.
The former
Deputy Governor the Central Bank of Nigeria had last Thursday been the guest of
the Jos office of the DSS who invited him following an interview he granted to
a radio station, Nigeria Info, in which he accused an unnamed northern
governor of being one of the commanders of Boko Haram in Nigeria.
Aside
Mailafia’s invitation by the DSS, the National Broadcasting Commission had also
fined the radio station N5m for what it described as hate speech.
However, unlike
Mailafia’s last visit where he was grilled by men of the DSS for over six hours
before he was released, Monday’s visit was more of a routine formality and
therefore brief as Mailafia emerged from
the DSS office shortly after he went in.
He was
accompanied to the DSS office by his wife, Margaret, the Jos branch chairman of
the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Bawa, among others.
Speaking earlier
Dr. Mailafia said “There seems to be more interest in what I have to say than
the killings in Southern Kaduna. But all I am saying is that the killing of my
people in the state and in other parts of Nigeria must stop,”
On why he
was invited for the second time, he declared thus: “I don’t know the reason for
my second invitation and if it is connected with my first invitation. Until I
enter before I can tell you the reason”, the former presidential candidate of the Action Democratic
Congress said in an answer to a correspondent inquest. Monday.
His lawyer,
Yakubu Bawa, disclosed this to newsmen on Monday that the invitation was in
connection with Mailafiya’s encounter with the DSS last week.
