Deontay Wilder Reveals New Injury During Tyson Fury Defeat Comment

Deontay Wilder lost his WBC heavyweight title to Tyson Fury

Deontay Wilder has revealed that he required surgery after injuring his bicep during the defeat to Tyson Fury in February.

The Bronze Bomber suffered the first defeat of his professional career and lost his WBC heavyweight title in Las Vegas as he was beaten in seven rounds by the Gypsy King.

Wilder has already blamed his heavy entrance costume as a reason for his poor performance against Fury. But the 34-year-old has now revealed that he suffered an injury to his left bicep during the fight and required surgery to fix the problem.

Recovery’s going well,’ Wilder told The PBC Podcast. ‘I’m in therapy. I end up injuring it during my last fight, somewhere up in there.

‘But everything’s going great with it. You know, that’s another thing, I’m just focusing on recovery, getting myself back to full health and getting ready to [come back].

‘Hopefully this corona stuff will be out the way and we can get back to camp, and get ready to go again sometime at the end of the year.

‘I can’t work out right now. That’s what I’m looking forward to. ‘You know, once I get healed with my arm, I’m looking forward to just working out, being able to do the things that I love to do.’

Deontay Wilder has also revealed that he plans to hire two new coaches for his third fight against Tyson Fury and claims he got rid of the ‘snakes’ from his camp.

The Bronze Bomber suffered the first defeat of his professional career and lost his WBC heavyweight title to Fury in Las Vegas in February. Wilder has already received advice from former heavyweight champion George Foreman following his seventh-round defeat in Vegas.

But the 34-year-old admits he is wary of hiring new members to his team and has suggested that someone in his camp betrayed his trust in the build-up to the rematch against Fury.

‘We’ve been having a lot of people reach out,’ Wilder told The PBC Podcast.

‘But you just have to be careful with that, because a lot people just see this time, see publicity.

‘They want to be able to say that they was the name that came in and stuff like that, and just look at it in a different way.

‘That’s how I’m looking at it and that’s how I know boxing. Boxing is very crooked, it’s a dirty business, you’re got to make sure you’re careful. It’s a corrupt sport as well.

You have to be careful about the people you bring around, what the intent of that person is trying to come in to help, especially if they’ve never reached out before and [now] see an opportunity.

‘I’ve had people tell me things, telling me not to do this or say this and then they turn around and do the same s*** they’re telling me not to do. ‘But I am looking to bring someone in, for sure. ‘We don’t have it down, yet.
Deontay Wilder claims he had 'jealous' people in his camp before his rematch against Tyson Fury

But I’m definitely bringing two people in. One of them he always comes to camp, he’s always around, he’s always in and out anyway.

‘But we’ll see what happens. I think we’ve got a great team that’s going to be formed and once everything will go back to normal, hopefully sooner rather than later, I can get my team in order and we can move forward with our game plan for the third fight.

‘I’m taking channelling everything in that happened, everything that happened towards me, I’m cutting my grass and getting rid of all the snakes in the grass. ‘It’s a lot of things.

This time allowed me to look back and to really dig in the weeds and see what was going on. ‘You can have a lot of great people around you but certain jealously of people you just can’t control.

‘You get to a certain level and you think people are with you but everybody wants certain things. Everybody wants what you have but they don’t want to work as hard as you or sacrifice as much as you.

‘So people get envy of things they can’t have. It’s one of the things I had to weed out, I had to change up some certain things.

‘It’s a business like none other. It’s sport where you’ve got to be able to trust people. And that’s the the hard part, being able to trust people around you.

‘You can have some people who have been around you for years and never show signs of anything until that moment they get offered something or someone comes along.

There’s so many different ways to make money in boxing. ‘When you’re dealing with money, money is the root of all evil. And a lot of evil s*** goes on in boxing.

And there’s a lot of things I’ve had to see myself, a lot of things I experienced that very night for myself, which is still something I’m scratching my head [at] and trying to put together.’
