Liverpool 'have to strengthen' IMMEDIATELY but - Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted the club must strengthen his squad in the transfer market but questioned whether now was the right time to bring new players in.

The Reds were hammered 3-0 by Brighton on Saturday in what was one of the worst performances of Klopp's tenure.

Defeat left the German's side ninth in the Premier League and 10 points off rivals Manchester United in fourth place.

Liverpool have already bought in Cody Gakpo for £44million from PSV this month, but Klopp has previously insisted not all of his side's problems can be solved in the transfer market.

And, speaking ahead of the Reds' FA Cup replay with Wolves on Tuesday night, Klopp reaffirmed his belief that signing players was not necessarily the answer.

He told reporters at his pre-match press conference: 'It must be a language issue. It must be that you ask these questions again and again because I answered already so often.

We look outside as well. It's not that we're stubborn and think we'll go with these boys until 2050.

'If solutions for us were outside and doable of course we would bring in players to help but we have an existing squad as well and we're definitely under-performing.

'But I cannot sit here and blame everything else. It's my responsibility that they perform and that's my first job to do.

'It's all about what you can do and want to do and each year is the same. Each press conference someone tells you to ask me about transfers during the window.

'Yes, we have limited options and these things and we have players with contracts who just aren't available. If they were it would be a different situation.'

Klopp, who currently has several first team stars out injured such as Virgil van Dijk, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, also insisted that the club can't just keep bringing in players and questioned whether it would make sense to strengthen at this time.

He added: 'If we bring in players we can't have them all on the Premier League or Champions League list. Our squad is not too small.

'We have to strengthen but is now the right moment? I can't see it because of the situation we are in and I think I know exactly how the situation is and that's it pretty much.

'I can't change the answer every week because the situation doesn't change.'
