Kaduna Kidnappings: PDP Candidate, Rights Group Fault Govt
Fresh concerns have emerged over the security situation in Kaduna State following reports of renewed kidnappings, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Usman Shehu Bawa, and the Eagle Brain Human Rights Organization calling for urgent government action.
The concerns followed the reported abduction of four persons from Rahusa Estate in Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area, on Monday night, October 6, 2026. Bawa, popularly known as ABG, condemned the attack, describing it as another disturbing incident amid growing anxiety among residents.
In a statement issued on Wednesday through his spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, the PDP candidate said he was deeply saddened by the incident, which reportedly occurred around 11pm when suspected kidnappers invaded the estate. He noted that the attack came barely a week after another incident in the Babban Saura PW community, where one person was reportedly killed and several others abducted, with some still in captivity.
Bawa said residents were increasingly living in fear and called on the state government to move beyond public assurances and demonstrate visible action. While commending security personnel for their efforts, he urged the authorities to deploy additional personnel to Millennium City and other vulnerable communities, strengthen neighbourhood patrols and establish effective emergency communication channels.
He also called for the swift and safe rescue of the abducted victims, better-equipped vigilante groups and closer collaboration between security agencies and community associations. Bawa said his proposed PEOPLE AGENDA administration would make community security a central priority if elected.
In a separate statement, the Chief Executive Officer of Eagle Brain Human Rights Organization, Comrade Daniel Ejembi, criticised what he described as the silence of government officials, political leaders and religious authorities over the reported kidnappings. He said families of victims were facing severe emotional and financial pressures, with some allegedly selling their belongings to raise ransom payments.
The organisation demanded a public condemnation of the attacks by the state government, the deployment of security personnel to affected communities, efforts to secure the unconditional release of abducted residents and support for victims' families. The latest calls have renewed pressure on the authorities to address residents' security concerns and provide clear information on measures being taken to prevent further attacks.
